Why Cycling Abroad From Athens to Poros
In comparison to many other European countries, Greece is not so friendly for cyclists, and there are not many cycling routes in this ancient country. Still, cycling in Greece is a very enjoyable adventure, and it is highly recommended.
One of the reasons for this lack of cycling routes is the fact that Greece is a mountainous country, and it is quite hard to find cycling tracks that are both relatively flat, and yet far from main roads. So if you are ready to explore the e-bike revolution, many cycling routes are open for you.
Apart from this challenge, Greece has so much to offer for us, the mini-touring cyclists: the climate, the food, the beaches and above all, the friendly people, especially those who live outside of the main cities.
So take a look on this special cycling trip, from Athens to the isle of Poros.
Our Cycling Trip From Athens to Poros in Brief
Except for some hills here and there, this trip from Athens to Poros is relatively flat. You can still ride it using e-bikes (I can recommend a reliable shop where you can rent e-bikes), but it is also suitable for conventional bikes, such as Hybrid bicycles.
Cycling from Athens to Poros is very diverse: you will start your journey at the crowded streets of the Greek Capital, cycling towards the port of Piraeus. Thereafter you can either use the ferry (actually two ferries) or just continue riding towards the Peloponnese peninsula. You will stay in well-selected hotels and resorts, visiting the beautiful city of Napfilio, and from there continue south-east toward Poros.
At Poros you can take a break and enjoy the atmosphere of a typical Greek island, and then take the one hour ferry back to Athens.
